Helpful Hints

Calling all Do-it-Yourself’ers!
Here are some useful tips for your next reno project:

Identify undertones

When choosing a neutral wall colour be aware of the undertones. If you are pairing up with a pinky beige carpet, make sure your walls have a warm undertone to make your space flow.

Don’t over extend yourself

When rolling paint on your walls always use an extension pole. This will make the job more efficient and save you a pain in the back.

Wall Patching

When patching holes on a white wall add a little colour to your compound. Mixing in a little paint will help you see the patch when it drys so you don’t make the mistake of painting over a rough spot before sanding.

Make your colours pop

When creating a colorful room it can be extremely effective to introduce pops of a hue through pillows, vases, plants, flowers and artwork. By leaving your walls as the background, the colourful accents are more powerful and you can easily change it up!

Consider the walls last

When choosing new paint colours always choose your large pieces first. Select Flooring, cabinetry, tiles and sofas, for example. There are thousands of paint colours to choose from but you don’t want to be limited by your walls when you find that perfect accessory.

Taking the right steps with wallpaper

Wallpaper is fun and doesn’t have to be difficult to remove when ready for a change. When the walls are properly prepped with a shiny paint the glue doesn’t absorb into your wall and you will thank yourself down the road when it’s easy to remove.
